Savory cake for a perfect French appetizer, bacon, prune and cheese

This bacon and prunes savory cake is a French classical dish! A savory cake can sound a little weird if you’re not French, but once you’ll taste, it will make perfect sense!

In France, savory cakes are served as an appetizer. Cut is small pieces, set in a nice plate and let your guests enjoy.

We like to serve this savory cake as an appetizer at the beginning of our cooking classes in Dallas.

Ingredients for your French savory cake:

  • 150 g of flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 10 g of baking powder
  • 125 ml of milk
  • 100 ml of olive oil
  • 80 g of prunes
  • 100 g smoked diced bacon
  • 100 g of grated cheese
  • 1 tbsp of mustard
  • Salt and pepper

In a large bowl, combine the flour and the baking powder.

Crack the eggs as you mix with a whisk one after the other, then add the mustard.

Add the oil and the milk, you have to get a smooth paste.

Pit the prunes, cut them into pieces, then flour them slightly.

Lightly salt and pepper your cake dough, and add the cheese, prunes and bacon and mix gently with a spatula.

Pour the preparation into a loaf pan coated with parchment paper.

Bake in a hot oven 350 ° F for 45 to 55 minutes. It has to be golden brown on the top, and when you plant a knife, the blade should come out dry.

Let cool before unmolding and cutting.
